It's morning and it's bright and sunny but a little breezy. The cruise ship that toured both Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine didn't open until 8:30am. We wait listed for the 11am tour since it was already sold out! We headed to breakfast, then checked out of the hotel, by this time is was almost launch time for the 11am tour. We made it on the tour! The cruise ship left shortly after 11am and slowly went around give a short history of the Many Glacier Hotel. The day was perfect for this with clear skis, occasional clouds and the breeze dying down.
The boat dock at the end of the lake. The group then boarded another boat on Lake Josephine. The boat docked at the far end of the lake. We first walked a mile north toward Grinnell Lake, a spectacular Alpine lake with majestic waterfalls and sheer cliffs. We stayed a while soaking in the view before heading back. It was a two mile trail back and easy and flat.
We then left Many Glacier Hotel (I drove), back toward Rising Sun Lodge. We checked into the Sunrise Motor Lodge a little after 4pm. We were in room 3, and our room faced the hill. We unpacked, then had dinner at the restaurant on property. After dinner on our walk back a man mentioned there was a bear sighting down the road. He said 300 yards which would have been fairly close. We then soon decided to hop in the car to explore the area. We drove down to where the bear spotting was and Lo and behold there was a small black bear foraging for berries. Cars on the road stopped to see. Once we passed the bear we turned around for another pass and closer views.
After taking photos at numerous stops we headed back at the room, then we decided to get dessert back at the restaurant. We had huckleberry ice cream and pie... Yum.
