On President's Day holiday we decide to take advantage of the nice weather with a hike at Mount Tamalpais in Marin County.
We leave Menlo Park around 10am and the drive north through San Francisco and over the Golden Gate took longer than expected. We arrive at Mt. Tam just before noon.
The weather at the top was clear with hazy skies and much cooler temperatures in the upper 40's/low 50's. It didn't feel too cold especially when hiking.
From the parking lot we made the short hike up to the very top of the East Peak of Mount Tam which affored spectacular views of the North Bay and San Francisco. From there we hiked down back to the visitor's center where he chatted with the ranger about possible hikes. We decided to hike the familiar Fern Creek Trail down the sunny south side of the mountain and then took the Old Railroad Grade back up past the historic West Point Inn. With the afternoon sun we stopped again at the Bay Area lookout from the top of the mountain
On our drive back home we stop for an early dinner at the Hard Knox cafe in the Richmond. They served comfort soul food. We both had the fried chicken!
